Join ECOSIGG on a FREE trip to Southampton for an educational day encompassing Site Planning & Investigation, Geotechnical Laboratory Testing, and Research for Novel Pile Design. The agenda includes:
- Ocean Infinity’s Remote Operations Centre and Virtual Reality Tour
- Visit the University of Southampton’s centrifuge, tow tank, and geotechnical laboratories
- University of Southampton academics and Geowynd engineers will deliver the following talks:
Benjamin Cerfontaine: “Silent piling to support offshore wind development”
I am currently associate professor in geotechnical engineering at the University of Southampton (UK) and a former EU-funded Marie-Curie fellow at the University of Dundee.
My main research focus is on foundations for offshore renewable energy devices, such as offshore wind turbines, and particularly floating offshore wind turbines. I have worked on screw piles, suction piles, or other silent piling techniques, with a focus on cyclic loading. My work entailed constitutive modelling, Finite Element, and DEM modelling, as well as centrifuge modelling.
Hugo Putahena: “GIS framework for marine spatial planning: finding space for offshore wind to support net zero”
Hugo Putuhena is a Post-doctoral Research Associate in Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) at the University of Southampton with a background in geoscience and geospatial. His research focuses on geographic information system (GIS) analysis of multi-disciplinary ocean data to assess suitable locations for future offshore wind, from anthropogenic, ecology, met ocean, and geoscience data. He is affiliated with the RAEng Centre of Excellence in Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering, Supergen ORE hub, and the BOWIE Ecowind project.
Andreas Ziogos: “Overview of interface testing and considerations for foundation applications”
Andreas is a Principal Geotechnical Engineer at Geowynd Laboratory (UK), with experience in advanced laboratory testing specification and analysis; foundation design, and ground investigation for onshore and offshore projects.
