Fixed and Floating technologies for OWF Claudia Scragg (UK Offshore Energy Manager at TYPSA)

The talk will provide an overview of the different technologies used in the Offshore Wind industry and their suitability dependent on water depth, seabed conditions, cost, and energy yield goals. This talk will expand on their advantages and limitations for each technology.

Floating Wind Industry Update and Challenges – David Brookes (St Jules)

The talk will provide an overview of the current Floating Wind developments and the challenges (updated to include the recent AR7 awards) faced by large schemes

Deployment of a Structural Digital Twin for the Kincardine Floating Wind Farm – Owen Pocock (Technical Manager at 2H)

The presentation will highlight the value of digital twins to the floating wind industry, how they reduce cost and risk, how they have been successfully deployed and calibrated for fatigue damage.

Claudia Scragg

UK Offshore Energy Manager at TYPSA

Throughout her 23 years of academic and professional career, Claudia Scragg has built a comprehensive knowledge in structural and geotechnical engineering specialising in offshore technologies and subsea infrastructure. Furthermore, her extensive project management and inspection experience has allowed her to work and deliver on projects with complex systems covering a range of multi disciplined scopes. Claudia gained her Subsea MSc at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and is a registered Chartered Engineer in the UK Engineering council with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology.

David Brookes

St Jules

David Brookes has over 45 years Industry Experience with over 30 years in Offshore Oil and Gas. He had a variety of roles in pipelines, chemicals, multiphase flow and offshore engineering for a major operator and was PM for the challenging Foinaven Development West of Shetland. After leading the company’s Deepwater R&D programme he became the first Chief Engineer for Subsea and Floating Systems in 2006. He was closely involved with the Joint Industry Project on Subsea Well Intervention following GOM oil spill intervention experience . Since retiring in 2015 he has set up his own consultancy - St Jules specializing in the offshore and subsea engineering sector including the rapidly expanding offshore renewable energy sector. He leads the SUT offshore wind energy training course and is a partner in small green hydrogen development consultancy.

He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Fellow of the IMechE and IMarEST, Past President and Honorary Fellow of the Society for Underwater Technology and Honorary Life Member of the Pipeline Industries Guild. He is a past Chair of the DOT Conferences and Co-Chair of the OTC Brazil in 2011. He has several Industry awards including UK Subsea Engineer of the year in 2009. He has been closely involved with the SUT for over 30 years including Honorary Secretary, Chair of Council and President.

Owen Pocock

Technical Manager at 2H

Owen is a Technical Manager in Offshore Wind at 2H, responsible for projects involving the design and numerical analysis of fixed and floating structures. Owen's recent project experience has involved managing the development of a structural digital twin for the Kincardine floating wind farm, designing fixed wind foundations for 20+MW turbines, and package management on the Courseulles project delivering the largest subsea drill the industry has seen.

No refund is payable for a cancellation made within the calendar month immediately prior to the training course – in this event the full sum shown on the invoice remains payable.
