Women in Industry
SUT’s Women in Industry SIG is the newest forum to join the SUT and aims to provide a dedicated platform for female engineers, scientists, technologists and professionals across the subsea and wider marine sector to connect, exchange experiences and share perspectives from their careers. The Women in Industry SIG exists to amplify voices, highlight challenges and achievements and create a supportive space to foster collaboration and visibility for women in the Underwater Technology industry.

The Women in Industry SIG is open to any SUT member – individual or corporate – who is interested in supporting diversity and inclusion, whether you identify as female, non-binary, male – everyone is welcome.

The SUT SIG for Women in Industry is the newest forum to be established and will be looking to arrange events and opportunities in addition to our quarterly meetings and will look to include:
- Panel sessions
- Networking
- Mentorship
- Webinars
- Workshops
Why is this SUT SIG for Women in Industry important?
This SIG for Women in Industry aims to support underrepresented groups to grow, connect and lead recognising that diverse teams lead to stronger innovation and better decision-making.
Marine and offshore roles have historically been male-dominated sector. Today, this SIG aims to level the playing field, create pathways for female talent and ensure retention and advancement of women throughout their careers.
By raising visibility, offering support and advocating for change, the SIG is helping to build a more equitable and sustainable sector.
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW: UK CONTEXT
Within the UK, there is increasing industry and societal pressure to improve gender balance, reduce bias and create more inclusive workplaces, particularly in STEM and offshore technology fields. This SIG supports SUT’s alignment with national diversity strategies and empowers individuals, companies and institutions in making measurable progress towards equity and inclusion.
