SUT Honorary Secretary

The Honorary Secretary is a pro bono, non-executive officer of the SUT and must be an SUT member. Elected by secret ballot no later than the October Council meeting, the term is 3 years, extendable to a maximum of 6 years.

Role

  • Ensure proper governance and compliance with statutory and legal obligations on behalf of the SUT Council and membership.

Responsibilities

  • Attend ~10 SUT Executive Meetings annually.
  • Attend quarterly Council Meetings.
  • Liaise with SUT CEO to invite Council members to meetings.
  • Cover the election process at Council meetings, with information provided by the CEO.
  • Receive the final SUT Council ballots and election results from SUT CEO and Communications Officer and inform the successful candidates.
  • Ensure the AGM operates effectively, including reading the convening notice.
  • Support and advise the Chair and CEO for smooth Council functioning.
  • Confirm resolutions and votes passed outside meetings with the CEO.
  • Provide administrative support to the Chair and CEO.
  • Participate in developing business vision and strategy.
  • Ensure effective day-to-day management of the organisation with the Executive Committee.
  • Ensure the Society benefits its membership and the wider public interest.
  • Ensure Council duties align with Charity Commission requirements.
  • Support and advocate for the Charity’s mission, vision, and values.
