NASA in Aberdeen – Inspiring the Next Generation 2019

Come along to this exciting presentation – “From Inner Space (Subsea) to Outer Space”, at Robert Gordon’s College and discover how technology and expertise developed for the oil and gas industry transforms human and robotic space exploration – past, present and future!

This talk will be delivered by a NASA Engineer/Scientist and former NASA astronaut Carl Walz, who flew four spaceflight missions on the Space Shuttle and Space Station, logging 231 total days in space!  Mr. Walz is now Director of Business Development for Oceaneering.

Carl will discuss how underwater training made spacewalks by astronauts and cosmonauts safe and efficient, and how technologies developed for Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) subsea applications have enabled robotic servicing of the International Space Station (ISS) and will enable future robotic satellite servicing far beyond the reach of astronauts!
