With the Energy Transition serving as a primary driver, the world’s complex energy landscape is changing rapidly to support the acceleration towards Net Zero by 2050. The generation and effective utilization of clean energy sources along with the decarbonization of operations form a key element of this global transition. The SUT is pleased to bring together a program of key industry players to outline the role that HVDC electrical systems play in offshore operations, using Project Lightning as a case study for using an HVDC system in the MENA Region.

Khalifa University: Welcome speech

SUT: Introduction to the Society for Underwater Technology which strives to provide a platform for multidisciplinary interactions related to underwater technology, ocean science, and offshore engineering.

ADNOC: The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) the world’s leading diversified energy group, will present the main rationale and key drivers behind the selection of Power from Shore for Project Lightning, ADNOC & TAQA’s pioneering offshore electrification mega-project in the UAE. Furthermore, ADNOC will provide an overview of the key legal aspects associated with the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) project delivery methodology selected for Project Lightning, a first of its kind for a subsea transmission project.

Hitachi Energy: Hitachi Energy is a global technology leader advancing a sustainable energy future for all by pioneering technologies and enabling the digital transformation required to accelerate the energy transition in the future. Hitachi will provide an overview of the architecture of the High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems, and outline the key characteristics and benefits of DC systems, including the primary role of HVDC Converters.

Prysmian: Prysmian is a world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, leading the energy transition and digital transformation. Prysmian will outline the role that Subsea Cables play in the transportation of electricity from generation sites to demand centres, describing the main characteristics of HVDC Subsea cables and how DC cables are key enablers to the Energy Transition.

Jan De Nul Group: Jan De Nul Group is a leading Marine Contractor that enhances people’s lives, connects communities, and improves infrastructure worldwide, through unique and innovative solutions. Jan De Nul will outline the key characteristics related to the installation of HVDC Subsea Cables, including protection methodologies for these key system assets and challenges associated with shallow water installation.

Moderated Q&A session with panelists from all keynote speakers. We welcome questions in advance via the SUT email: me@sut.org

A networking session with light refreshments will be served.
