James Cooper-Maitland

Australian Regular Army officer for 13 years, separating from Defence in 2018 as a Major. James spent 5 of those 13 years in the Northern Territory, with two years as a NORFORCE Squadron Commander based in Nhulunbuy in north east Arnhem Land. Career highlighters were two operational tours, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan as an embed with the US Army’s 4th infantry division headquarters based at Kandahar. James graduated from the Joint Warfare College as an Information Warfare specialist in 2016. On separating from the Army in 2018, James started with the WA State Government in 2019 as the Manager for the State’s Veterans Issues portfolio before joining the Defence Science Team within Defence West at the beginning of this year. James has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies and another in Information Systems, both from Murdoch University, and a Master’s Degree from UNSW in Strategy and Policy.
