Typical challenges in offshore geotechnical engineering include geohazards (such as seismic activity, liquefaction gas hydrate, shallow gas, faults), complex soil conditions and harsh environmental loading conditions etc. In this presentation, several case examples of marine consultancy projects with geotechnical challenges will be provided, which include desktop studies of well casing integrity due to gas hydrate dissociation, spudcan-suction bucket interaction geotechnical performance evaluation, offshore foundation design in sediments with existence of shallow gas and effects of aseismic faults intersecting offshore production well etc. Details of the analysis methodology and procedure, potential mitigation measurements and study recommendations for these challenging case studies will be presented.

Speaker:
