Discover how autonomous technology is transforming offshore operations from our experienced speakers. From advanced AUVs and innovative USVs to autonomous seismic nodes, autonomy enhances safety, efficiency, and sustainability across the industry.
Presenters:
- Autonomous Sustainable Seismic Nodes – Ted Manning, bp
In bp, Ted has held multiple leadership and individual contributor technical roles such as Senior Advisor Imaging, and Asia Pacific Seismic Delivery Manager. As such, he has led globally distributed multidisciplinary teams, both in Research and Technology Development and in Operations, covering subsurface geophysics and topside digital AI/ML/Robotics.
Recently, Ted is the thought leader behind a ‘Sustainable Seismic’ vision, chairs bp’s Marine Autonomy Working Group (MAWG), was bp’s representative on the Technical Working Committee for Blue Ocean Seismic Services UK start-up (hybrid swarm of autonomous underwater robotic nodes), and is a member of the SprintRobotics Program Committee. His passion is to ‘bridge the chasm’ between valuable R&D solutions and accelerated deployment, that results in distinctive business impact.
Previous bp technology innovation work includes: ISS source blending, MAZ imaging, high-density sampling, nimble land node and Stryde start-up, ForeSite Machine Learning anomaly detection framework, and developed the first Sprint Robotics fitness trial.
Ted originally joined Western Geophysical in 1995, following a HDip in Computer Science (UCC), MSc in Geophysics (Durham University), and BSc in Geology (UCD). He is NEBOSH OHS certified. He is an active member of SEG and EAGE.
- Autonomy and Residence in Action – Alan Anderson, Oceaneering
Alan supports global programs for developing and implementing new technology in Subsea Robotics and Autonomous Systems in his role as Product Manager with Oceaneering International.
Starting his career as a Trainee ROV Pilot Technician after gaining a Batchelors Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Robert Gordons University in 1998, Alan has over 25 years’ experience in Subsea Robotics Design, Construction and Operations.
After 8 years offshore in ROV Operations working for various service providers, Alan, transitioned onshore in the mid 2000’s first as an operations support engineer and progressing over the next 17 years through roles including:-
Regional Technical Manager, Global Support Manager and ROV & Tooling Systems Product Owner and Product Manager.
Alan joined Oceaneering’s Subsea Robotics Division in early 2021.
- Technical and Operational Developments in the next 12 months – Maverick Piccininni, Exail
As Exail’s Director and Head of Sales in the UK and Ireland, Maverick is passionate about addressing real-world problems with Exail’s innovative solutions. With a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, his background in product marketing and go-to-market strategy has been crucial to building markets for new and developing technologies. Prior to Exail, he worked to introduce new subsea imaging technology to the offshore energy & defence markets when he joined the marine industry with 2G Robotics (now Voyis). His participation on the steering committee of the Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase (MATS) is helping pave the way the we adopt autonomy in the maritime industry, and how the next generation of mariners and technologists develop innovative systems and solutions. Since 2020, he has been a part of Exail’s dynamic team in Aberdeen, leading a period of rapid growth of their cutting-edge marine robotics, autonomy, positioning, and navigation technologies.
- Introduction to Reach Remote – Sam Mountain, Reach Subsea
Sam Mountain has worked at Reach Subsea for the past 18 months specialising in establishing new relationships and broadening Reach Subsea’s market share within the UK Subsea IRM and Robotics space. He has worked within the Subsea space since leaving school at 17 and has an active interest in new technologies and enhancing efficiencies for customers. Sam is excited about explaining what Reach Remote is, and what it means to Reach. Outside of work he is a committed rugby coach and Aberdeen fan.
