Wreck Removal of the TS TAIPEI
In March 2016 the 1600 TEU container vessel TS TAIPEI lost propulsion during stormy weather and ran aground at the shore of Shimen, Taiwan. The vessel suffered breaches which resulted in water ingress in its cargo holds and the engine room and the vessel broke in two. The ship’s bunkers from the damaged tanks polluted the shoreline.
SMIT successfully completed within 4 months the removal to the full satisfaction of the Client and local authorities. The presentation will outline the history of contracting this work, as well as the operational details and its challenges.
