Based on David’s career experiences, the presentation will run through some of the main site investigation techniques, the resulting datasets and how they can be used to appraise offshore sites at a variety of stages of a project. Key topics include:

  • The importance of a desktop study, to guide site selection, feasibility, engineering concepts and design of a suitable site investigation scope of work.
  • Key site investigation techniques, including offshore, nearshore and intertidal geophysical and geotechnical survey methods, and some key challenges.
  • Data processing and interpretation methods and how the resulting datasets are packaged and delivered.
  • Data integration and analysis methods to maximise the available site investigation data.

David is a principal consultant geoscientist, predominantly focussed on multidisciplinary data interpretation and integration to support the offshore renewables and subsea cables industries. David’s career began in onshore geotechnics, with exposure to a variety of site operations, both onshore, nearshore and offshore, before transitioning to a more desk-based role analysing of a variety of geodata to characterise site conditions, hazards and constraints.
