Perth – April Evening Technical Meeting: Decommissioning

17 April, 2024

RETURN TO LISTINGS

The evening will focus on the following three topics:

AUSTRALIAN DECOMMISSIONING, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Dr Francis Norman – CODA

As the volumes of offshore decommissioning rapidly ramp up there are increasing needs for both the capacity and capability right across the service sector. With local industry coming off a relatively low volume base of decommissioning activity this rapid growth is presenting both the traditional challenges of finding personnel and capacity but is also offering a number of opportunities for companies to develop and deploy solutions to address industries needs. This presentation will endeavour to give an overview of the current status of decommissioning as well as show some opportunities waiting to be addressed.

ADDRESSING ENGINEERING CHALLENGES IN DECOMMISSIONING AGED SUBSEA ASSETS: A CASE STUDY OF THE BASKER MANTA FIELD

Vandana Crispin , Oceaneering

The decommissioning of aging oil and gas subsea assets presents formidable challenges for industry clients, particularly when these assets were not originally designed for fatigue loads associated with decommissioning processes. This case study focuses on the decommissioning assessment and offshore execution of the Basker Manta Gummy Field conducted for Cooper Energy, highlighting engineering challenges encountered and innovative solutions devised to ensure safe and effective decommissioning.

DECOMMISSIONING CHALLENGES FOR SUBSEA ASSETS

Sean Husband, Atteris

Sean will present a high level overview of some of the challenges encountered when recovering subsea infrastructure for decommissioning, and why removal methods that simply reverse installation methods don’t typically work. The presentation will include some case studies for some of the decommissioning projects Atteris has been involved in and how the actual recovery operations compared with the engineering analysis that supported development of the procedures.
