HIGHLIGHTS

With many of us in lock-down and unable to travel for training or attending external events, SUT have started a series of short web-based training sessions focussed on key technologies and processes relevant to our members across the Society’s areas of interest.

The format is a 20 to 30 minute training presentation followed by up to 30 minutes of QA & discussion. The sessions will be run using a live Zoom feed with a limit of 99 attendees, & they will not be recorded. Attendance is free for current SUT members (corporate and personal) together with anyone who has recently been made redundant from existing corporate members. Training Session 4

Subsea Tribology, Tuesday 23rd June 2020 13:00 BST

This is the 4th in our series of free to members, web-based training sessions

The presentation is on The fundamentals of Tribology and their application in Subsea Engineering.

Areas covered will start with:

Introduction (what is Tribology and what Subsea equipment is considered)

  1. The nature of surfaces and surface contact
  2. Surface characteristics & measurement
  3. Friction mechanisms 

On 7th July 1300hrs we’ll have part 2, covering:

  1. The effect of lubricants
  2. Functional fluids (so-called because many lubricants have to perform numerous functions besides lubrication)
  3. The subsea operating environment
  4. Practical examples

The training session will be presented by Tony Globe, a long-standing member, & Fellow of the SUT – and the first person to sign up as a SUT Patron.
