Houston – Subsea Awareness Course

This course offers foundational knowledge for individuals entering the industry and those needing a refresher, in addition to providing unique networking opportunities with professionals from the oil and gas industry.

Four-day course offering industry professionals a broad introduction to subsea, covering the various sectors, operations and emerging technologies. Course participants receive first-hand instruction from leading supply and service companies, such as TechnipFMC, Chevron, Oceaneering, Genesis Oil and Gas, the Jukes Group, Blackfin Offshore, Evoleap and BP as well as guided tours to subsea facilities and operations.

While most of the course will be presented in a classroom environment, the sessions will be interactive, with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss what has been learned. In particular, hands-on and visual components have been included wherever possible to enable delegates to view software models and products destined for subsea service.

Who should attend?
Engineers, managers, financial analysts, and others new to the offshore industry, or those transferring from other disciplines within the industry. This course is also great for engineers who have worked in subsea previously but would benefit from a refresher course and exposure to the latest technology.

Aberdeen – Evening Meeting Salvage UXO

The seminar shall cover underwater intervention to recover unexploded ordnance and stricken vessels that pose a hazard to shipping and existing infrastructure, covering the operational decision making that often becomes necessary mid-project and touching on commercial aspects of a salvage job.

SMIT: Alexander Gorter, Sr Naval Architect

Wreck Removal of the TS TAIPEI

In March 2016 the 1600 TEU container vessel TS TAIPEI lost propulsion during stormy weather and ran aground at the shore of Shimen, Taiwan. The vessel suffered breaches which resulted in water ingress in its cargo holds and the engine room and the vessel broke in two. The ship’s bunkers from the damaged tanks polluted the shoreline.

SMIT successfully completed within 4 months the removal to the full satisfaction of the Client and local authorities. The presentation will outline the history of contracting this work, as well as the operational details and its challenges.

James Fisher Marine Services: Jennie Kevis-Stirling

James Fisher UXO Operations

James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) cover a wide range of offshore services including salvage operations and UXO detection, identification & disposal effectively and with minimal disruption to sea life.

JFMS track record includes successful explosive ordnance disposal of over 400 safe disposals without incident, in challenging and varying offshore environmental conditions. This presentation will cover the types of operations required to deal with such hazards, including case study details.

Dr Jennie Kevis-Stirling has been recently promoted within James Fisher Marine Services as their Survey and UXO Manager. Prior to that she has held positions at Fugro and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

SPE Aberdeen – 4D Seismic History Matching

4D Seismic History Matching.

Paul Mitchell, TAQA & SPE Distinguished Lecturer

Abstract: This presentation will show how time-lapse or 4D seismic data can be used as an additional constraint to history match reservoir models in a 4D Seismic History Matching (4D SHM) workflow. 4D SHM is the process of developing reservoir models that are consistent with both the observed production data and the 4D seismic data.

A case study will be presented where 4D SHM was applied to the Harding and Gryphon fields in the North Sea. It was used to develop regional geological and simulation models for a major gas development project. The combination of geological knowledge, reservoir simulation and 4D SHM led to greater confidence in the final models. 4D SHM is an evolving technology, so the presentation will conclude with a discussion on the current status of the technology and some of its research and development directions.

Biography: Paul Mitchell is the Discipline Lead for Geophysics at TAQA in the UK and is a technical authority for geophysics within the company. Paul has thirty years of experience in exploration, development and production geophysics from around the world. He spent a number of years working in ExxonMobil’s Upstream Research Centre in Houston specialising in seismic depth imaging, 3D volume interpretation and 4D seismic. He is currently working within a multi-disciplinary team developing subsurface models for a large gas development project in the North Sea. He is the Founding President of the EAGE Local Chapter in Aberdeen and is Chair of the SPE Seismic2018 conference.
