The Leading Edge of Value-Based Subsea Inspection

We have experienced a tremendous rate of development in technological capability which has enhanced the efficiency of our operations. These include a significant decline in the cost of data processing and storage,
miniaturisation of subsea sensors, increased computing capacity, quick, reliable, wireless communications, increased utilization of subsea robotics and sophisticated data analytics and artificial intelligence. However,
within a cost constrained environment stakeholders must drive development towards a value based solution

The Society for Underwater Technology, The Hydrographic Society in Scotland and The International Marine Contractors Association invite you to our popular annual joint seminar.

Aberdeen Evening Meeting – Pipeline Management

Pipeline Management

Presentations from:

Adrian Griffiths, Shell

Subsea Intelligent Pigging   Click here for the presentation

As a conclusion to Shell’s Pipeline Integrity Project, the inspection of the Penguins production pipelines in 2016 presented the opportunity to combine many of the lessons leaned over the previous 5 years of planning and executing similar inspections from a DSV.  The subsea launch and receive of the infield 10” Pipeline, and the subsea launch and platform receive of the 16” Pipeline each presented technical, safety and resource challenges.

Aberdeen Evening Meeting -Standalone Facilities – ‘Back to the Future’

Standalone Facilities

A key to maximising the economic recovery from the UKCS will be the exploitation and development of small pools and stranded assets. A one of the main technologies to enable this production may be the use of standalone facilities, particularly as the major hub infrastructure is decommissioned. This evening event promises to be a very interesting exploration of this “back to the future” technology; reflecting on an example of what has been done and the lessons learned, the current asset mix and road-mapping which technologies may fit and showcasing some of the new and innovative ideas.

Chairperson  – Tony Laing (Independent Business and technology advisor)

BP SWOPS Project– Sandy Meldrum

“A means of producing oil from small offshore fields which would be uneconomic for fixed platforms or other conventional means.”

Explanation of  the concept, the production vessel size and facilities, and the unique subsea equipment.

The Case for Standalone Facilities – Gordon Drummond – NSRI

Results from industry engagement hackathons suggested two main streams of activity necessary to fulfil MER UK, greater efficiency in the use of subsea tiebacks and also alternative solutions to conventional surface breaking facilities.  Converting new solutions to fielded facilities is certainly the more technically rich area, and as such has become a focus area for NSRI.  This presentation will outline the case for Standalone facilities and present the findings of the industry hackathons.
