Houston – Metocean Awareness Course

March 4-5, 2020: 8:00am-4:00pm

Intecsea
575 North Dairy Ashford Rd.
Houston, Texas 77079

Metocean is a discipline covering meteorology and physical oceanography and is concerned with quantifying the impact and effect of weather and sea conditions on a wide range of activities particularly in the offshore oil and gas and renewables industries.

Why will this course benefit you?
________________________________________

For all offshore industries, the effects of meteorology and oceanography (metocean) have a major impact on design and operations. If users of metocean information are not aware of the implications that the weather, waves, currents and water levels can have on their operations or design work, then things can go wrong with serious health and safety and economic consequences.

This two day Metocean Awareness Course is aimed at those who need to have a greater understanding of metocean conditions worldwide and how they might impact the effectiveness of their work. The course format will include a mixture of short presentations presented by expert speakers in this field. Delegates will receive a comprehensive course manual on attendance.

Who should attend?
________________________________________

This course is essential for Project Managers and Engineers in the offshore oil and gas and renewables industries, involved in operations or design, from new entrants to the industry to those with many years of experience. The course will enable delegates to interact and network with expert speakers and other delegates from various backgrounds who use or provide metocean data.

Houston – Westwood Global Energy 2020 Offshore Rig Market Outlook

Thursday January 30, 2020: 11:30am-12:30pm

Intecsea
575 North Dairy Ashford Rd.
Houston, Texas 77079

Oil prices are on a knife-edge heading into 2020. However, commodity prices are still projected to hold around $60-65 in 2020. This is expected to support investment over the next 12 months, as supermajors are posting strong financials, and many are expected to increase offshore Capex spending next year.

Westwood forecast US$125bn billion of new development expenditure to be sanctioned in 2020. E&P cost control will remain a key theme in 2020, but project lead times are expected to grow, as lower development costs continue to facilitate final investment decisions. Market optimism is increasing, as engagements between E&P companies and the supply chain continue for the optimisation and delivery of various field development concepts.

Meanwhile, the offshore rig market continues to gain momentum, although not as quickly as many had hoped for. Rig utilization is rising moderately as a whole, but some regions have seen more robust gains, and day rates have accordingly increased. For 2020, growth is expected to continue, assuming oil prices remain at or above current levels.

Westwood Global Energy’s Head of RigLogix, Terry Childs, will discuss what is happening in the global offshore rig market, as well as provide a general overview of the subsea market and what can be expected there.

Houston – Offshore Workforce Engagement Through Modern Technology & Techniques

Thursday January 23, 2020: 11:30am-12:30pm

NOV Auditorium
10353 Richmond Avenue
Houston, Texas 77042

With a shrinking pool of available talent and a wave of older workers reaching retirement age, the offshore industry needs to adopt innovative strategies for developing the next generation of talent. Unlike prior generations in today’s workforce, people in their mid-20s to early 40s have been immersed in technology and grew up using laptops, computers, smartphones, iPads, and all other new gadgets.

The offshore industry must adapt to changing digital times and highlight its technical depth by asking the right questions to engage the younger generation workforce. This workforce is very mobile, consuming content, gathering information, and engaging in knowledge-share and communications for longer periods throughout the day via small-screen, connected devices. To engage and train younger generations, digital must be an integral component of new operating models and talent strategies. Digitally-enabled asset inspections, subsurface analyses, and self-diagnosing wells will transform exploration and production.

In addition to paper-based or traditional classroom modalities for training and engaging workforce, digital platforms (such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and AI-based training tools), create more engaging, satisfying work environments and accelerate workforce performance and productivity3,4,5.

With the constraints on workplace productivity and learning, workforce curriculum transformation is as important to the corporate balance sheet as low fixed asset costs. It must “meet the learner” on their terms to successfully transfer important knowledge. From Sales to Engineering, to Technical Support; even extending from internal to also include external knowledge share… it is all critical!

Key Questions to Consider in Learning

  • Content should be convenient, readily accessible: wherever the staff is located, no matter their device, and no matter the time of day (or night).
  • And more than that, the learning program must engage the user despite the distractions or external claims for their attention.

Join us for a Lunch & Learn as the Sify team discusses and shares new technologies, techniques, and knowledge-share through AR, VR, and AI.

Aberdeen – Evening Meeting – The Low Carbon Future – How can the Subsea Industry Contribute?

Sir Ian Wood Building Robert Gordon University Garthdee Road Aberdeen AB10 7GJ

Registrations 17:30– Presentations 18:00, Refreshments & Networking to follow

Click here for the report of this meeting

The world is gaining an increasing focus on tackling global warming with a particular emphasis on carbon reduction. The Oil & Gas UK’s Energy Transition Outlook Report 2019 identifies activities focusing on Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage, Hydrogen Production, Offshore Renewables Integration and Net Zero Offshore Operations.

This evening meeting looks to cover the above topics with subject matter experts to identify how the subsea industry can play its part.

Hugh Riddell, Regional Partnership Manager at Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult

Integration of Renewable Energy for Offshore Operations

Rory MacKenzie, Head of Subsea Electrical Technologies, Total

Subsea Electrification for Carbon Footprint Reduction

Electrification of the subsea production system is part of a global CO2 reduction program within Total. Together with subsea processing, digitalization and automation we see the potential to minimize topside facilities to normally unmanned FPSO’s/platforms (more than 50% size reduction) or remove them altogether with Subsea to Beach architectures.  This will realize a significant carbon footprint reduction during the development phases and the operational phase.

Reduction in the size of subsea infrastructure will also have a positive carbon reduction contribution during manufacture and installation phases.  Eliminating the continuous hydraulic supply from manufacturing locations to the offshore facilities will also contribute.  Additionally, the potential for releasing hydraulic fluids to sea will be removed.

Greg Jones, Project Engineer, Oil and Gas Technology Centre

Hydrogen Production, the Future of Decarbonised Energy?

Hydrogen has the potential to replace the gas we use in our homes and the fuel we use in our vehicles. It is therefore an essential element of the energy mix as we move to decarbonised energy. An overview of current projects and what the hydrogen economy could look like will be presented.

David Vega-Maza, Senior Lecturer in Engineering at University of Aberdeen

Our Carbon Budget is Running Out, Along with Our Excuses

Summarising the indisputable climate change evidences caused by human activity, impacts, projections, and mitigation strategies. Although there is no magic solution, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) may contribute to it as we transition to a net-zero carbon economy. This involves capturing CO2 when it is produced, transporting it and injecting it into a deep suitable storage site such as a depleted offshore oil reservoir or a saline aquifer. CCUS technologies, drivers and blockers will be presented, followed by an open discussion.
