Young-Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics Launch

The OSIG Committee is pleased to announce the finalised programme for the launch event for Y-OSIG. We will have an introduction by Mick Cook (SUT Council Member and Treasurer) and Andy Barwise (OSIG Chairman) followed by a stimulating afternoon of presentations from 11 young professionals on a wide range of subjects.

While the judges deliberate, Andy Barwise will lead a discussion on how Y-OSIG could work. All young offshore ‘geo’ professionals are invited to attend and discuss what they would like from Y-OSIG and how they could be involved.

The judges will then present the awards, and we will then adjourn to the Hoop and Toy for refreshments, kindly provided by our sponsors.

Perth – WISE – Establishing the Baseline: Presentation of Key Findings

Recently WISE initiated a study in order to gain further insight into the status of women working in the subsea sector. Prepared by Professor Linley Lord, Dr. Melissa Marinelli and Ms Danielle Leotta the report aims to establish a gender profile with a particular focus on women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) professions in order to identify barriers and which are limiting participation and develop strategies to address this.

SubSea UK Life of Field Conference

10:00 – 16:00

This conference, to be held in Bristol 6 November 2018, will provide an opportunity to discuss the equipment supply, technologies and service models required to support the industry in this new environment.

• The low oil prices of recent years have had a significant impact on the Oil and Gas business. However, this has not helped marine renewables become established as a commercially viable alternative.

• Despite signs of oil price recovery, the field operators and their supply chain expect costs will require to stay low.

• The focus of operations is transitioning to total expenditure (TOTEX) for full Life of Field Support.

• Key issues are lifelong asset integrity through IRM and smart autonomous technologies.

Decommissioning and Wreck Removal
Influence, educate and unlock opportunities: Informing key decom and wreck removal challenges.

Join us at this sixth Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) and Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS)Decom and Wreck Removal Workshop, where we bring together international expertise from oil and gas decommissioning, marine salvage, renewables and marine science, to build a shared understanding and explore solutions within wreck removal and offshore decommissioning.

Connect, network and debate with a range of international scientists, engineers, salvers, operators, regulators, trade bodies, NGOs, insurers, lawyers, and other users of the sea, to consider topics using a holistic life cycle approach.

Workshop topics:

  • Global Environmental Challenges for Decommissioning – Explore pan basin challenges to managing the environment during decom, environmental policy drivers of decom practices and funding mechanisms for international industry and academic collaborations.
  • Capture and Sharing of Marine Data – Interactive session exploring what data scientists need in order to understand our marine environment, and how industry can help them to get hold of it.
  • Innovative Techniques and Technology Linking Salvage & Decom – From simulation and augmented reality, to the use of explosives as a cutting tool, this session explores the link to ecosystem impact, addresses possible misconceptions, and asks how to better integrate the scientific community with practical engineering matters and evaluation of options.
  • Cutting Piles – Drill cutting pile options during decommissioning includenatural recovery, bioremediation, relocation and removal; We explore the current situation and discuss potential future developments.
