Come along to our annual SUT+ Pub Quiz Night and put those brains to the test!
This event will take place at Soprano Wine Bar and Bistro on Thursday the 20th of April from 1900-2030. Food and drinks will be reaily available on the night to buy as you wish.
Teams will be made up of groups of 4 who will be competing through various rounds to win the cash prize! So get your thinking hats on and make your team. Chat to your collegues, fellow students or friends you have worked with in the industry and form your supergroup! Entry is £5 per person and this will form the cash prize, so the more teams that enter- the more money there is to be won! Everyone is welcome for what promises to be a great evening!

The SUT OSIG committee is pleased to announce it has organised an evening Geoforum event to be hosted at the SS Great Britain in Bristol.
The evening will comprise of a series of presentations on a range of geo-related themes of particular interest to the south west region with an opening address by Commodore Steve Jermy RN of Marine Offshore Renewables. Each speaker slot will include allowance for a Q&A session at the end. An outline of the session is provided for guidance.

Valves are key components of subsea production and subsea pipeline transportation systems and manufacturers have been tasked to extend the capabilities of their products to cover larger sizes and more severe operating conditions. This presentation will discuss the recent developments at ATV Spa with large bore valves and valves for HPHT and HIPPS applications, including valves supplied to Shell Appomattox and Exxon Julia.
Enrico Sanguineti holds a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering with University of Genova and is currently General Manager with ATV Spa. Enrico has been involved with valves for critical applications since 1993.

Join SUT+ and the NHC for an afternoon visit to the site in Aberdeen. The event will consist of presentations and a tour to gain exposure to the National Hyperbaric Centre and the services it provides to the Oil and Gas industry and medicine.
The presentations include:
- Introduction to the NHC.
- Commercial diving.
- Hyperbaric medicine.
- Hyperbaric testing of subsea equipment.
The tour of the NHC facility will enable invitees to interact with the hyperbaric technology and help to put the presentations into real-world context.
- Attendees are expected to make their own way to the event and are to meet at the reception of the NHC. There is adequate free parking available outside the facility.
- No PPE required.
Places are free of charge, but limited to 20 and you must register in advance.

Opportunities & Challenges of Wave Power: If I could tell you just one thing.
Beth Dickens, Senior Engineer, Quoceant
Beth is a mechanical engineer with extensive experience of offshore renewables in her career at Pelamis Wave Power and now as a consultant at Quoceant. In this talk she will look at the opportunities and challenges the marine renewables industry faces specifically targeting operational constraints in connecting and disconnecting devices onsite in hazardous conditions. She’ll talk about the innovative systems developed at Pelamis to perform these tasks and their wider applicability to the marine renewables industry, offshore wind and the wider offshore market.
Anchoring – Getting the foundations right!
Andrew Hunt, Engineering Manager, Sustainable Marine Energy Ltd
SME will present how they have tackled and solved one of the key challenges facing installation of tidal energy converters, namely cost effective anchoring to the seabed. They will discuss the development of screw pile anchors for the subsea market used in sand/clay seabeds and the novel, grout free, Raptor rock anchor solution. The products have applicability far beyond just marine renewables; it’s just that SME by the nature of its business solved the problem in perhaps the most hostile subsea environment first.

SUT ANNUAL GOLF EVENT
‘The Society of Underwater of Technology annual golf event is 21 years old this year and again will provide an excellent opportunity for the Tigers and the Happy Gilmours of the subsea community to enjoy a quality social event. The venue this year is the local Aberdeen Golf Club (Peterculter Golf Club), and excellent course for all abilities in a friendly atmosphere in beautiful surroundings surrounded by the Dee river, and only a short drive from the city. The golf will be followed by a BBQ, where drives can be longer, putts can be holed and networks expanded.
- Registration and Brunch at 10:00hrs (plenty of time to do the morning emails)
- Tee off starts at 11:00
- The event shall be based on a stableford event with prizes for teams (3 person) and individuals, plus a few others; giving all an opportunity.
- The day shall conclude with a BBQ and prize giving.
- The cost for the event is £75 per person or £225 per team
